Each piece is hand-finished in Japan by master artisans using the centuries-old Ishiji technique—a process that builds texture and depth through countless layers of lacquer. The result is a surface that appears soft and organic, yet glows with a quiet metallic radiance.

The deep black body of the pen is finished with a subtle, grain-like pattern—each one unique to the individual craftsman’s hand. Gold dust is applied with precision and restraint, producing a luminous contrast that feels both modern and ancient. Every pen requires weeks of layering, polishing, and curing under tightly controlled conditions, reflecting the traditional rhythm of urushi art rather than industrial production.

Beneath its artistry, the Ishiji Black & Gold is designed for long-term use. It features a 14-karat gold nib paired with a plastic feed, ensuring a naturally responsive writing experience. The pen uses a cartridge/converter filling system, allowing for modern versatility while preserving the tactile warmth of handmade construction.

Produced in small batches, this edition captures the essence of AP Limited Editions’ philosophy—respect for heritage, mastery of material, and the pursuit of quiet excellence.

Key Details

Hand-crafted in Japan using traditional Ishiji urushi technique

Distinctive black textured finish with delicate gold highlights

14k gold nib with plastic feed for natural ink flow

Cartridge/converter filling system

Presented in AP Limited Editions’ signature collector’s box

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0942/1003/1937/files/AP-Limited-Editions-Urushi-Lacquer-Art-Fountain-Pen-Ishiji-Black-_-Gold-uncapped_jpg.jpg?v=1787680249
https://fahrneyspens.live/products/ap-limited-editions-urushi-lacquer-art-fountain-pen-ishiji-black-gold
